Laparoscopy
Laparoscopy is using small holes to perform surgery in the abdomen. Any time surgery is performed with small holes, there is always a risk of having to make a large incision, but that is unlikely. There's the benefit of an earlier return to routine activity and decreased pain when compared to an open procedure. A risk is that we may poke something we don't mean to, but this is very unlikely.
We perform many surgeries laparoscopically, including gallbladder removal, hernia repair, anti-reflux surgery (Nissen), colon removal for diverticulosis and cancer, and others. Dr. Beane is recognized as a Priority Health Center of Excellence surgeon because of his laparoscopic experience.
